Traction Through Tiers

Asset Level Tiers That Is...

This week I began to notice the days blending into each other seamlessly. I stayed up practicing rebuilds or simply refining my geometry with the newly efficient workspaces created from the last time. Usually I'd preface creating roughly 10 models in one week (or what has felt like more) as difficult. However, I remain focused on how to make my 3D work it's best even when working through a tier system of models that have their own unique challenges applied.

Some of these challenges included pitting out an object, working with defined and scaled helixes, and practicing with soft selection (which is more preferred on organic objects).

After bridging my coils together, I practiced using my 'insert edge loop' tool allowing me to create a much more natural and refined curve. The most gratifying portion however was soft selecting the final points of my coil and scaling it down to a finite point. It's a minor change in the models shape but this tool along with many others are keeping me coming back to study.

This asset was a level two asset but consider I overhauled my block out within the first week I already had a better understanding as to how helixes are create and how to format an object about it. Making this level two asset as easy as the last image which is a level one asset, the jar. All of this is notable but in comparison to what I'll practice with more level two assets as they become the norm, who knows what potential can be made in one month.
